More than 20 years after its release in theaters, Gladiator is one of the best and classic movies of all time. This epic historical drama film revolves around the character of a Roman General named Maximus Decimus Meridius, who was betrayed when Commodus, the son of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, murders his father and takes over the throne. Maximus then became a gladiator and rose through the ranks of the arena to avenge the murders of his family and his beloved emperor Marcus Aurelius.

According to a story shared by Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix needed some motivation when filming the early scenes of the movie.
