Originally released in 1968, Night of the Living Dead has a chilling story involves terrifying zombies. Starring Duane Jones and Judith O'Dea, the independent film is now well-known for being a cult classic. When it was first released, many people were shocked by the film’s use of gore and graphic content. To date, the film has amassed a fan following and it was an influential movie for the horror genre. The Library of Congress selected the film to be preserved for historical significance.
The story centers on Ben, Barba and other human survivors who are stuck inside of a farmhouse in Pennsylvania. The movie helped to ignite the genre of horror and became an influential film for years to come. Although the film is well-known for featuring zombies, the actual term is not used in the movie. The creatures in the Night of the Living dead films are actually called ghouls.
