Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, often referred to as simply the Dirt Band, is a legendary American country-folk-rock band with a legacy spanning over five decades. Formed in Long Beach, California in 1966, the band's original lineup consisted of Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bruce Kunkel, and Ralph Barr. Since then, the lineup has seen some changes, but the core essence of their music has remained constant.

One of their most iconic achievements is their groundbreaking album "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," released in 1972. This landmark record brought together the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band with a host of legendary country and bluegrass musicians, including Mother Maybelle Carter, Earl Scruggs, Roy Acuff, and Doc Watson, among others. The album not only bridged the gap between generations but also between genres, blending traditional country and folk with contemporary sounds.

Over the years, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has produced numerous hits, including "Mr. Bojangles," "Fishin' in the Dark," "American Dream," and "Long Hard Road (The Sharecropper's Dream)." Their music reflects a deep connection to American roots music while also embracing the spirit of innovation and experimentation.
