Corpse Bride is a 2005 stop-motion animated film directed by Mike Johnson and Tim Burton. It follows the story of Victor Van Dort, the son of rich fish merchants, and Victoria Everglot, the mistreated daughter of impoverished aristocrats, who prepare for their fixed marriage. Although Victor and Victoria fell in love instantly, the nervous Victor ruined the wedding rehearsal by forgetting his vows and set Lady Everglot’s dress on fire. Ashamed of himself, he fled to a nearby forest and practiced his vows, and placed his wedding ring on an upturned root. To his surprise, the root is revealed to be the finger of a dead woman named Emily, who rose from the grave claiming that she is now Victor’s wife and brought him to the Land of the Dead.
Did you know that Johnny Depp developed his character’s persona in about 15 minutes only? When Depp read the script of Corpse Bride, he loved it immediately. But he wasn’t quite expecting when Tim said that he’ll be recording some of Corpse Bride immediately that night. Burton grilled him for 15 minutes so Depp devised a whole set of mannerisms and motivations for Victor.
