T-Shirts Just Aren't the Same Without Sheldon Cooper

Sheldon Cooper of The Big Bang Theory fame made it cool to be a nerd again. He made it cool to wear T-shirts paying homage to the Flash, Green Lantern, and Star Trek. The Big Bang Theory has only been gone for a year and already we miss our beloved Sheldon. T-shirts just aren't the same without him in our lives.

How curious that a fictional TV character can mean so much to so many people. Sheldon's secret is that he connected with so many people who feel like they never quite fit in. He is a hero to so many science geeks who live their entire lives under the semi-paranoid delusion that no one truly understands them.

Sheldon's Now Famous T-Shirts

The T-shirt thing actually started out as nothing special. The show's creators put actors in T-shirts just because they felt it made actor Jim Parsons look the part. But it didn't take long for fans to start looking for a hidden meaning in each shirt. Show creators ran with it and the rest is history.

Sheldon has a few favorites, the first one being his number 73 T-shirt. Cooper fans understand that 73 is Sheldon's favorite number. Why? He explained it himself in an episode that originally aired in 2010. In that episode, Sheldon said:

"The best number is 73. Why? 73 is the 21st prime number. Its mirror, 37, is the 12th and its mirror, 21, is the product of multiplying 7 and 3."

If you get all that, you might be of the same mind as Cooper. You can count yourself among that small group of people Sheldon would find interesting.

Other famous Sheldon Cooper T-shirts include:

  • The Green Lantern (in various shades)
  • The Flash (Sheldon's favorite comic book character)
  • Test Pattern (from the days of analog TV broadcasts).

In later years, it became a thing for Big Bang show creators to work with others to swap T-shirts. For example, the CW show The Flash pays homage to Sheldon Cooper and Big Bang with T-shirts of its own. The show's main character, Cisco Ramon, is seen wearing T-shirts with phrases like "this is my spot" and " Bazinga".

Feeling Good about Themselves

When you step back and look at the Sheldon Cooper T-shirt phenomenon you discover something interesting. Just like the Cooper character made it cool to be a nerd again, wearing T-shirts that Sheldon would wear makes self-proclaimed nerds feel good about themselves.

What kind of T-shirts do you wear? Whatever they are, you are probably proud to put on something that speaks a message you believe in. Whether that message is political, funny, artsy, or esoteric, it means something to you. Wearing your T-shirts is important because it lets you tell the world something about yourself.

Sheldon Cooper fans are proud to be nerds and geeks. They are proud to be smart enough to understand things like particle acceleration and theoretical physics. They are not afraid to let the world know that Star Trek and the Justice League are fascinating.
