Star Trek Captain's Chair V-Neck T-Shirt

This Captain's Chair design comes from Star Trek: The Original Series, the 1966 show NBC cancelled after three seasons and syndication turned into a religion. Star Trek premiered on NBC in September 1966 and was cancelled after three seasons and 79 episodes. Syndication did what the network would not. Reruns built an audience large enough that NASA named its first space shuttle Enterprise after a write-in campaign, and a show that failed on first broadcast became thirteen films and more than a dozen series. The budget was tight enough that the transporter exists because the production could not afford to land a starship every week. A shimmering effect made from aluminium powder was cheaper than a landing sequence.

The first pilot, The Cage, starred Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Pike and was rejected as too cerebral. Martin Luther King Jr. personally persuaded Nichelle Nichols not to leave the show.
