Star Trek Not a Hair Dresser Tank Top

This Not a Hair Dresser design comes from Star Trek: The Original Series, the 1966 show NBC cancelled after three seasons and syndication turned into a religion. The budget was tight enough that the transporter exists because the production could not afford to land a starship every week. A shimmering effect made from aluminium powder was cheaper than a landing sequence. Gene Roddenberry sold it to the network as a western in space, which is how a show about diplomacy, ethics and a pacifist science officer got made in the middle of the 1960s at all.

The first pilot, The Cage, starred Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Pike and was rejected as too cerebral. Martin Luther King Jr. personally persuaded Nichelle Nichols not to leave the show.
