Star Trek Last Battlefield T-Shirt

This Last Battlefield design comes from Star Trek: The Original Series, the 1966 show NBC cancelled after three seasons and syndication turned into a religion. Nichelle Nichols planned to quit after the first season until Martin Luther King Jr. told her that a Black woman on the bridge of a starship was worth staying for. She stayed, and spent years afterward recruiting astronauts for NASA, among them Sally Ride and Guion Bluford. Gene Roddenberry sold it to the network as a western in space, which is how a show about diplomacy, ethics and a pacifist science officer got made in the middle of the 1960s at all.

Martin Luther King Jr. personally persuaded Nichelle Nichols not to leave the show. Tribbles were built in a weekend from fake fur and simple motors, and the episode is the most beloved of the run.
