This First Contact Poster design comes from the Star Trek films, where the franchise learned how to break your heart. The 2009 reboot did something unusual: rather than overwrite what came before, it branched. A Romulan incursion destroys the USS Kelvin, history diverges from that moment, and the original timeline stays intact. The branch is named for the lost ship. The Voyage Home sent the crew to San Francisco in 1986 to collect two humpback whales, and became the most successful of the original-cast films by being, essentially, a comedy. First Contact took the Next Generation crew and the Borg and produced the best film of that era.

Leonard Nimoy appears in the reboot as the Spock who remembers how events were meant to go. Anton Yelchin, who played Chekov, died in 2016; Beyond was his last Star Trek film.
