Betty Boop was created at Max Fleischer's studio and first appeared on 9 August 1930 in the short Dizzy Dishes, animated by Grim Natwick. She did not start out human. The original character was drawn as an anthropomorphic dog, and across the next two years the floppy ears were redrawn into hoop earrings and the snout into a button nose.
