Come and Be Afraid!
Who doesn't love Child's Play? Were you that kid that was scared out of your mind of your dolls? Did you ever think that they just had a mind of their own? Well, one thing is for sure, Andy Barclay was not that kid…but he sure got a rude awakening when he met his new friend, Chucky. 30 years ago, the world was introduced to the notorious serial killer, Charles Lee Ray, the Lakeshore Strangler. On a cold, Chicago night, Ray was gunned down in an old toy store on Wabash and Van Buren by Detective Mike Norris. Nearing death, he found an opportunity to live on, but not as a man; as a red haired, suspender-wearing, freckled face doll, with a lust for blood.
We then meet the adorable little birthday boy, Andy Barclay. His mother Karen was a widow and always working, struggling to keep her and her young boy afloat. She barely has enough money to buy him new clothes but as any young child would want, Andy desperately yearned for a Good Guy Doll made by Play Pals toy factory. What child could deny the innocent face, and the catchy song that goes along with this popular toy!? “Hi-de Hi-de Ho! Best Friends ‘Til The End!”
Things begin to go wrong fast after
Karen buys a Good Guy doll off a peddler in an alleyway outside of her
work. Andy’s baby-sitter, Aunt Maggie is
the first to perish, falling out of a window, plunging to her death. One by
one, people around Andy begin to fall. After being taken away from his mother
for telling the police that his Good Guy Doll, Chucky, did everything, Chucky
finds Andy at the Asylum and goes after him.
Chucky must send his soul into the first human he revealed his true self
to. Chasing Andy back to his home, the face off begins. Karen and Detective Norris fight to save
little Andy. They finally defeat Chucky the
only way that they could; they shoot him in the heart. His heart was almost human and it was the
only way, as Chucky’s old VooDoo friend, John, tells Karen. Karen protects her son and they all live
happily ever after…or so they thought.
The franchise has spawned 6 sequels to
the cult classic. Chucky is in the ranks
with Freddy, Jason, and Michael, and cannot be forgotten regardless of his
size. He is larger than life and will
continue to frighten children for years to come. 2017 welcomes back our
original Andy, Alex Vincent, who gave an amazing performance reprising his
iconic role. The new film brought
twists, turns, blood, guts and plenty of revenge. It is a must see for all
Child’s Play fans. Curse of Chucky and
Cult of Chucky really brought the whole franchise together, tying in the
original film, bringing opportunity to bring back more original characters.
Now you can have the opportunity to
meet the cast! This May at Texas Frightmare 2018, you will be able to meet
Chucky, Karen and Andy Barclay, Kyle (Child’s Play 2), Nica, and the man who
created the monster doll, Mr. Kevin Yagher, himself. The Chucky 30th
Anniversary celebration is sure to dazzle fans and really bring them closer to
their cult fan favorite. There will be
many guests, panels, cosplay and fun! Nerdkungfu
is really looking forward to covering this event. Perhaps there will be some surprises in store
regarding another Chucky film, but that is, as of right now, wishful thinking. We can’t wait to enjoy our time there,
digging in deeper into the mind of Charles Lee Ray and the little boy, who was
able to defeat him. Come out and join in
the fun! Tickets at www.texasfrightmareweekend.com
