2017 has been shaping up to be a banner year for video games and gaming addicts. With new titles like Resident Evil VII: Biohazard and the recent release of Horizon Zero Dawn for PlayStation 4, there’s been tons of buzz. However, it’s pretty clear what’s been on the forefront of everyone’s minds—the Nintendo Switch and the latest addition to The Legend of Zelda franchise. We decided to take a closer look at the console’s specs and find out what the reviewers had to say about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Here’s everything you need to know and stay savvy about the latest Nintendo release.

The Nintendo Switch boasts a ton of cool features, mainly bridging the gap between console gaming and pocket tech. For one, the Nintendo Switch is a hybrid gaming device, offering players multiple ways to play. Gamers can go for a traditional console experience by leaving the Nintendo Switch docked at home, and play through their television. Or, the Switch allows players the convenience of traveling with the product for on-the-go play. The review team over at CNET notes that the Switch is designed perfectly for retractable airplane tables, making it totally ready to rock when you’re on the go and traveling.

For now, the only Nintendo game on everyone’s minds is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. If you grew up playing the original Zelda game, your initial thoughts might be nostalgic memories of your black and white NES version of the game—but we’ve come a long way since then. Sure, you’re going to see familiar faces, like the ultimate baddie Ganon and the fair-faced Princess Zelda, but Breath of the Wild is unlike any other Zelda game thus far. All the major gaming websites have already gone crazy with near-perfect reviews, heralding it as the best Nintendo release to date. Let’s take a look at some of the reviews and what they have to say about it. Is the Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, worth the hype?

The team over at Kotaku has deemed it, "Triumphant. Groundbreaking. The pinnacle of Zelda." In a highly detailed review, the team at Kotaku delve deep into the game, describing more about how the brain-crunching puzzles and immersive experience. Forget about traditional Nintendo gameplay, because Breath of the Wild is designed for players to throw out all of their preconceived notions about Zelda out the window. With the open-world experience and the new features provided by the Nintendo Switch, Breath of the Wild aims to turn all of those things on to its head. The only drawback is that the Nintendo Switch’s controller can be a little arduous to use at times, so be prepared to plan ahead and give yourself a break every now and then. Over sixty reviewers over at Metacritic have already delivered a nigh untouchable score of 98. Reviewers at Kotaku and IGN logged over fifty hours of gameplay thus far, and they still have plenty of puzzles to figure out and places to explore. Unlike other games which boast tons of content and sadly fall flat, it looks like Zelda is worth every penny.

Over at Gamespot, Peter Brown spent over sixty hours in Hyrule before penning his review. His score? A perfect ten, praising the game for being one of Nintendo’s finest. WCCF Tech calls it the game of a generation and draws comparisons to other recent Zelda titles. Other additions to the Zelda franchise seemed to offer more ways to explore, at times, the games felt limited in what they could deliver. It’s certainly not the case with Breath of the Wild, where players can climb nearly anything, swim, and truly explore the lands of Hyrule. Of course, Kotaku already has a walkthrough guide offering tips you need to know for playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Based on the reviews, it seems like this is Nintendo’s best Zelda title yet. With an immersive open-world experience, combining elements from games like Far Cry Primal and The Witcher 3, gaming addicts finally have a chance to lose themselves in Hyrule. If you’re ready to take the plunge, the Nintendo Switch is available now, with a retail price of $299.99. While players can already explore the lands of Hyrule with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nintendo is selling an Expansion Pass for the game, with promises of a DLC later this year.
