Description
This Another Dimension design comes from The Twilight Zone, the anthology that spent five seasons proving a half hour is plenty of time to take everything away from someone. Serling came to the anthology format partly to get around network censors. Sponsors would object to a drama about prejudice or mob violence set in a real American town, but the same story set on another planet, or in a town that turns out not to exist, sailed through. The Twilight Zone ran on CBS from 1959 to 1964, created and hosted by Rod Serling, who wrote or co-wrote more than ninety of its episodes himself. That workload is the reason the series has such a consistent voice, and probably part of the reason Serling died at fifty.
In Eye of the Beholder the doctors and nurses are kept off camera for most of the episode so the reveal lands, and the makeup design still works on a shirt sixty years later. Serling used science fiction to get past network censors: stories about prejudice and mob panic were unsellable set in a real town, and perfectly acceptable set somewhere that did not exist. This one is printed on a black unisex v-neck t-shirt in sizes S through 2XL. Grab it for yourself or for the friend who says submitted for your approval without irony.
