TRV-CBS1593-AL-1

This Spiral Logo design comes from The Twilight Zone, the anthology that spent five seasons proving a half hour is plenty of time to take everything away from someone. The Twilight Zone ran on CBS from 1959 to 1964, created and hosted by Rod Serling, who wrote or co-wrote more than ninety of its episodes himself. That workload is the reason the series has such a consistent voice, and probably part of the reason Serling died at fifty. Its imagery has outlived almost everything else from that era of television. The spiral, the opening narration and the phrase itself are all in ordinary speech now, used constantly by people who have never watched an episode.

Serling used science fiction to get past network censors: stories about prejudice and mob panic were unsellable set in a real town, and perfectly acceptable set somewhere that did not exist. To Serve Man is the one with the Kanamit book, and the punchline is a cookbook. The joke only works in English, which the episode quietly ignores. This one is printed on a charcoal unisex long sleeve t-shirt in sizes S through 3XL. A solid pick for anyone who narrates their own bad days in the voice of Rod Serling.
