Description
This Jet Silhouette design comes from Top Gun, the 1986 film that turned naval aviation into a synth-scored recruitment poster and never apologised for it. Goose, played by Anthony Edwards, is the reason the film has any weight at all, and the volleyball scene is the reason it has a reputation for being about something other than flying. The school is real. The United States Navy Fighter Weapons School was established at NAS Miramar in 1969 to teach dogfighting after air combat performance dropped off in Vietnam, and the call sign culture and squadron patches in the film come straight from it.
Because I was inverted is Maverick explaining how he got a photograph of a MiG pilot, and it has outlived most of the rest of the dialogue. The F-14 Tomcat has variable-geometry swing wings, and the VF-1 insignia on the merchandise is a real squadron patch. This one is printed on a silver unisex t-shirt in sizes S through 3XL. Sizes run deep, with plus sizes and Tall fits on the core tee.
