Description
This Iceman design comes from Top Gun, the 1986 film that turned naval aviation into a synth-scored recruitment poster and never apologised for it. Top Gun: Maverick arrived in 2022, thirty-six years later, with Cruise insisting on real aircraft and practical photography. It grossed well over a billion dollars and is one of the very few legacy sequels that outperformed the original. Top Gun was released in 1986, directed by Tony Scott and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, and it was the highest-grossing film of that year. It is built almost entirely out of surface: jets, aviators, a synth score and Tom Cruise grinning at people.
For the sequel Tom Cruise insisted on real aircraft and in-cockpit photography, and the cast went through a months-long flight training programme to withstand the G-forces. Because I was inverted is Maverick explaining how he got a photograph of a MiG pilot, and it has outlived most of the rest of the dialogue. This one is printed on a slate unisex t-shirt in sizes S through 3XL. Officially licensed and printed on heavyweight cotton.
