Description
This Fresh Ice design comes from Top Gun, the 1986 film that turned naval aviation into a synth-scored recruitment poster and never apologised for it. The F-14 Tomcat is the other star. Its swing wings and the VF-1 squadron insignia are why so much of the merchandise is patch and insignia work rather than cast photography. Top Gun: Maverick arrived in 2022, thirty-six years later, with Cruise insisting on real aircraft and practical photography. It grossed well over a billion dollars and is one of the very few legacy sequels that outperformed the original.
Because I was inverted is Maverick explaining how he got a photograph of a MiG pilot, and it has outlived most of the rest of the dialogue. The Navy set up recruiting tables in cinema lobbies during the 1986 run, and naval aviation enlistment rose sharply. This one is printed on a white unisex t-shirt in sizes S through 5XL.
