This Hide design comes from Tom and Jerry, the cat-and-mouse shorts Hanna and Barbera started at MGM in 1940, which won seven Academy Awards without either lead ever really speaking. The formula never needed dialogue. A cat wants a mouse, the mouse is faster and considerably more inventive, and the house they wreck resets by the next short. It plays identically in any language, which is a large part of why it never went away.
