The Warriors Nine Warriors Crewneck Sweatshirt

This Nine Warriors design comes from The Warriors, the 1979 film in which a Coney Island gang has to cross the whole of New York on foot with every other gang in the city hunting them. The Warriors was released in 1979, directed by Walter Hill from the Sol Yurick novel, which itself reworked Xenophon Anabasis — a Greek account of soldiers fighting their way home through hostile territory. The film keeps that shape exactly: nine men, one long night, the wrong end of the city. Come out to play, delivered by Luther while clinking three bottles together, was improvised by David Patrick Kelly on set. It has outlasted almost every other line in American cinema of that year.

The roster of nine — Rembrandt, Cochise, Cowboy, Vermin, Cleon, Swan, Snow, Ajax and Fox — is printed on merchandise more often than any single character. Paramount withdrew advertising after violence at some early screenings, which turned the film into an underground reputation rather than a hit.
