This Poster design comes from The Exorcist, the 1973 film that convinced a large part of the moviegoing public that it had made a serious mistake buying a ticket. The Exorcist was released in December 1973, directed by William Friedkin from William Peter Blatty adapted screenplay of his own novel, and it did something no horror film had managed before: it was taken seriously. It drew ten Academy Award nominations and won two, for Adapted Screenplay and for Sound, and it was the first horror film ever nominated for Best Picture. Friedkin refrigerated the MacNeil bedroom set until it held frost, so the breath on camera is real and the cast worked in coats between takes. He also fired a gun on set without warning and slapped a priest playing a priest, both to get reactions he wanted, and both stories he told happily for decades.

Pazuzu, the demon possessing Regan, is a real figure from Assyrian and Babylonian belief — a wind demon, and in the original mythology something closer to a protector than a villain. Friedkin chilled the bedroom set so the breath would fog on camera, and the cast wore coats between takes. This one is printed on a black unisex sweatshirt in sizes S through 4XL.
