Description
This Off Duty design comes from Taxi, the sitcom that put a handful of people who wanted to be doing anything else in the same garage five nights a week. Christopher Lloyd arrived in season two as Reverend Jim Ignatowski, a burnout priest of a made-up church, in what was meant to be a single episode. He stayed for the rest of the run and got the most quoted scene the show ever produced. Andy Kaufman played Latka Gravas, a mechanic from an unnamed country, built out of the Foreign Man character Kaufman had been performing in clubs. His contract famously also required appearances by his lounge-singer alter ego.
The theme, Angela, is by Bob James, and it is a melancholy instrumental for a comedy, which tells you exactly what kind of show it is. Andy Kaufman built Latka from his Foreign Man stand-up character, and his deal with the show reportedly also obliged the producers to book his lounge-singer alter ego Tony Clifton. This one is printed on a safari green unisex t-shirt in sizes S through 3XL. A solid pick for anyone who has ever had a job they described as temporary for six years.
