The joke works because the poses are accurate. The cat Kirk fights the Gorn in the same stance, on the same rocks, from Arena. Star Trek Cats began as a book by illustrator Jenny Parks, who painted the Original Series crew as cats and then restaged the show's best-known moments with them.

The cat-versus-Gorn design restages the fight from the episode Arena, stardate 3045.6. Tribbles first appear in The Trouble with Tribbles, and turn up repeatedly in the cat designs. This one is printed on a black unisex tank top in sizes S through 2XL.
