Star Trek Ensign Chekov Crewneck Sweatshirt

This Ensign Chekov design comes from Star Trek: The Original Series, the 1966 show NBC cancelled after three seasons and syndication turned into a religion. Gene Roddenberry sold it to the network as a western in space, which is how a show about diplomacy, ethics and a pacifist science officer got made in the middle of the 1960s at all. The budget was tight enough that the transporter exists because the production could not afford to land a starship every week. A shimmering effect made from aluminium powder was cheaper than a landing sequence.

The first pilot, The Cage, starred Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Pike and was rejected as too cerebral. Tribbles were built in a weekend from fake fur and simple motors, and the episode is the most beloved of the run. This one is printed on a black unisex sweatshirt in sizes S through 3XL.
