This Rough Logo design comes from Sesame Street, the show that has been teaching letters and numbers on public television since 1969 and has outlasted almost everything that ever shared a schedule with it. Sesame Street premiered on public television in November 1969, built by the Childrens Television Workshop around a genuinely radical idea: that the techniques of advertising could be turned on their head and used to teach letters and numbers to children who were not being reached any other way.

Cookie Monster began life in a series of unaired snack commercials Jim Henson made in the 1960s, where the same googly-eyed creature ate the product rather than endorsing it.
