Description
This Aku Face design comes from Samurai Jack, the Cartoon Network series that threw a samurai into a ruined future and then spent most of its runtime saying nothing at all. Samurai Jack premiered on Cartoon Network in August 2001, created by Genndy Tartakovsky. A samurai corners the shape-shifting demon Aku, and Aku, losing, tears open time and flings him into a distant future the demon already rules. Everything after that is one man walking, looking for a way back. The design language survives reduction better than almost any other cartoon of its era. Aku is a black shape with a green mouth and red flame. Jack is a white shape with a topknot. Both read instantly at any size, which is precisely why they work printed flat on a shirt.
It won Emmy Awards during its original run and again for its return, which is unusual for a series that came back after more than a decade away. The Daughters of Aku are seven assassins raised from birth inside a cult with one purpose, killing Jack. Their blank split-face masks became one of the most recognisable images from the final season. This one is printed on a black unisex v-neck t-shirt in sizes S through 2XL. A solid pick for anyone who waited thirteen years for the ending and got one.
