Samurai Jack Divisive Crewneck Sweatshirt

This Divisive design comes from Samurai Jack, the Cartoon Network series that threw a samurai into a ruined future and then spent most of its runtime saying nothing at all. The look is the reason people still talk about it. Tartakovsky threw out black outlines entirely and built every figure from flat blocks of colour, so a silhouette against a sky does the work a fully rendered drawing would normally do. Almost nothing else on television at the time was attempting that. Samurai Jack premiered on Cartoon Network in August 2001, created by Genndy Tartakovsky. A samurai corners the shape-shifting demon Aku, and Aku, losing, tears open time and flings him into a distant future the demon already rules. Everything after that is one man walking, looking for a way back.

Episodes regularly go three or four minutes with no dialogue whatsoever. The 2017 season opens on a sequence that tells you everything about where Jack has ended up without a single line of explanation. It won Emmy Awards during its original run and again for its return, which is unusual for a series that came back after more than a decade away.
