Riverdale South Side Serpents T-Shirt

This South Side Serpents design comes from Riverdale, the series that took the sunniest characters in American comics and moved them into a neon-lit town where something is always wrong. KJ Apa plays Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart plays Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes plays Veronica Lodge and Cole Sprouse plays Jughead Jones, who narrates the whole thing like a noir detective who has read too much. The pitch is Archie by way of Twin Peaks. Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead are still teenagers in a small town with a diner, but the first season opens on a dead student and never really lets the town be pleasant again.

The palette is built on heavy neon and shadow rather than the bright flat colour of the comics, and that choice is what let the show sell itself as noir. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa developed the series while serving as chief creative officer of Archie Comics, which is why the reinvention went as far as it did.
