Dubble Bubble was invented in 1928 by Walter Diemer, an accountant at the Fleer Chewing Gum Company who was experimenting with gum recipes on his own time. The wrapper carried a small comic, the Fleer Funnies, starring a character called Pud, and for decades that comic was the only thing many children read with their sweets.
