This Burst Bubble design comes from Dubble Bubble, the gum that got its pink colour because it was the only food dye the factory had on hand. The pink is an accident. Pink was the only food colouring in the factory when he mixed the first successful batch, and the colour stuck to bubble gum as a category ever after. The wrapper carried a small comic, the Fleer Funnies, starring a character called Pud, and for decades that comic was the only thing many children read with their sweets.
