This To Save My City design comes from Arrow, the CW series that put a billionaire with a bow on network television and accidentally built a shared universe. The show gave DC its first successful modern television foothold, and what started as one series turned into a shared universe: The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman all grew out of it, with annual crossovers between them. Felicity Smoak began as a one-scene IT technician and became a lead, which is a rare thing for a character invented as a plot convenience and a large part of why the show worked.
