Who is in Garbage and when did they form?
Garbage formed in 1993 in Madison, Wisconsin, with Shirley Manson on lead vocals, Butch Vig on drums, Duke Erikson on guitar, bass, and keyboards, and Steve Marker on guitar and keyboards. The four-member lineup has stayed unchanged since the start.
Where did the name Garbage come from?
Butch Vig reportedly wrote in his studio journal, “I hope that all this garbage will become something beautiful!” and the name stuck.
How did Shirley Manson end up in the band?
Steve Marker spotted Manson’s earlier band Angelfish on MTV’s 120 Minutes and tracked her down. She later called their first audition “a disaster,” but she reconnected with the band and moved from Edinburgh to Madison to record the debut.
