Ted Johnson, a former midget racer from Madison, Wisconsin, established the World of Outlaws in 1978. He created the first national sprint car sanctioning body with a unified schedule, rulebook, and points system.
What kind of racing is the World of Outlaws?
It is dirt track racing featuring high-powered, custom-built sprint cars with adjustable top wings and massive rear tires. The series travels across North America plus sanctioned races in Mexico and Australia.
How powerful are these sprint cars?

The large top mounted wing has sideboards that face opposite directions to help produce a great amount of downforce, which keeps the car planted on loose dirt.
Why are the rear tires different sizes?
The right rear tire measures about 105 inches in circumference while the left rear ranges from 90 to 98 inches. That difference, called stagger, helps the car turn sharper on oval tracks.

The minimum weight is 1,425 pounds including the driver, which is remarkably light for a car making over 900 horsepower.

No. Sprint cars have no starters and no reverse gears, so push trucks are used to fire up the engines.
