Who founded The Cult and when?
Singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy formed the band in 1983 in Bradford, England. The two have remained the group’s core throughout its many lineup changes.
Was the band always called The Cult?
No. It grew out of Southern Death Cult (1981 to 1983), then shortened to Death Cult (1983 to 1984), before finally settling on The Cult in January 1984.
