Star Trek Enterprise
Before the Federation existed. Enterprise went backwards, to roughly a century before Kirk, when warp five was new, transporters were terrifying, and humanity had no idea what was out there.
Scott Bakula played Jonathan Archer, commanding the NX-01 with no Prime Directive to fall back on because nobody had written one yet. It is the only Star Trek series to open with a pop song rather than an orchestral theme, a decision fans have never entirely forgiven. Cancelled after four seasons, it was the first Star Trek cancelled since the original, and its final year is also where the franchise finally explained why Klingons looked different in the 1960s.
