Avery Brooks played Benjamin Sisko, the first Black commanding officer to lead a Star Trek series. Across seven seasons and 176 episodes the show did something the franchise had avoided: it serialised. The Dominion War ran for years, consequences stuck, and In the Pale Moonlight ends with a captain deciding he can live with what he has done. The Ferengi finally became people here too, and Nog went from a petty thief to the first of his species in Starfleet.
