Where and when did Death Cab for Cutie form?
The band formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. It started as a solo project for singer Ben Gibbard before growing into a full band.

Where does the name Death Cab for Cutie come from?
Gibbard took it from a song called “Death Cab for Cutie” by the British group the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, which was performed in the Beatles’ 1967 film Magical Mystery Tour. Gibbard later joked that had he known the band would become successful, he might have picked a better name.

Walla, the original guitarist and longtime producer, departed in 2014 after the band brought in outside producer Rich Costey and he found himself artistically at odds with the direction. His final show was reportedly on September 13, 2014, in Calgary.
