Jacques Feyder's Visages d'Enfants, Faces of Children, shot on location in the Swiss Valais rather than on a set, with real villages, real snow and a cast that included local people. It is told almost entirely from a boy's point of view as he loses his mother and refuses to accept the woman who replaces her, and Feyder uses subjective inserts and dream imagery to stay inside the child's head.
It sat unreleased for a considerable time after completion and did badly when it finally appeared, which is roughly the standard fate of films that treat a child's grief as the entire subject. It has since been called one of the great silent films about childhood. Someone has written across the top of this sheet in pencil, dated January 1930.
