Columbia kept them on one-year contracts the entire time and never told them how profitable they were. The core act is Moe Howard, his brother Curly, and Larry Fine. Curly is the one most people picture — the high voice, the woob woob woob, the floor spin — and he is generally considered one of the great physical comedians of the century.

Their enormous popularity with children came from television: Columbia sold the shorts to TV in 1958 and created a second, much larger audience.
