The Warriors Gang Photo T-Shirt

This Gang Photo design comes from The Warriors, the 1979 film in which a Coney Island gang has to cross the whole of New York on foot with every other gang in the city hunting them. Come out to play, delivered by Luther while clinking three bottles together, was improvised by David Patrick Kelly on set. It has outlasted almost every other line in American cinema of that year. The Warriors was released in 1979, directed by Walter Hill from the Sol Yurick novel, which itself reworked Xenophon Anabasis — a Greek account of soldiers fighting their way home through hostile territory. The film keeps that shape exactly: nine men, one long night, the wrong end of the city.

Walter Hill gave each gang one strong visual idea so they would read instantly, which is why the Baseball Furies and the Rogues are still recognisable decades later. Come out to play was improvised on set by David Patrick Kelly, who also supplied the three bottles he clinks together. This one is printed on a silver unisex t-shirt in sizes S through 3XL.
