First National, 1925. Willis O'Brien built the dinosaurs as jointed models over metal armatures, some with sponge muscles and rubber skin that had to be reset between every single exposure, and animated roughly fifty of them a frame at a time. It took years. The payoff is the first feature length film to put stop motion creatures on screen, and the direct rehearsal for King Kong eight years later with much of the same crew.

Conan Doyle screened silent test footage to the Society of American Magicians in 1922 and flatly refused to say what it was, which got him a straight faced write up in the New York Times wondering whether the dinosaurs were real. The film was also the first ever shown to passengers in flight, on a London to Paris service in 1925. For decades only butchered short prints survived, and the version people can watch now was rebuilt from fragments found across several countries.
