The Hobbit Great Eagle Sketch T-Shirt

This Great Eagle Sketch design comes from The Hobbit, Peter Jackson's return to Middle-earth, which turned a short children's book into three very long films. Smaug is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch through motion capture, and the dragon is the most technically impressive creature in either trilogy. Tauriel, played by Evangeline Lilly, does not appear in the book at all and was written for the films. It was shot at 48 frames per second rather than the standard 24, a format Jackson championed and audiences largely disliked — it made elaborate sets look like television. Very few films have used it since.

Guillermo del Toro spent two years developing the films and was set to direct before scheduling forced him out, leaving much of his design work in place. Smaug is performed by Benedict Cumberbatch through motion capture, and he also voices the Necromancer. This one is printed on a slate unisex t-shirt in sizes S through 3XL.
