This Moonlight Surf design comes from Teen Wolf, the 1985 film in which a high schooler discovers his family turns into werewolves and immediately uses it to get good at basketball. Its premise is the opposite of a horror film. Scott becomes a werewolf and the town loves him for it — he becomes a basketball star and a minor celebrity, and the plot is about whether he would rather be popular as the wolf or ordinary as himself. It cost very little and made a great deal, and it produced a sequel with Jason Bateman, an animated series, and eventually the MTV drama that shares the name but almost nothing else.

Teen Wolf was filmed before Back to the Future but released after it, so Michael J. Fox went from unknown to enormous between shooting and release.
