Taxi ran from 1978 to 1982 on ABC and for a final season on NBC, created by James L. Brooks, Stan Daniels, David Davis and Ed Weinberger — four people who had just come off The Mary Tyler Moore Show and knew exactly how to build an ensemble.

Louie runs the garage from inside a wire cage, which was a practical set choice that turned into the single best visual joke in the series. The theme, Angela, is by Bob James, and it is a melancholy instrumental for a comedy, which tells you exactly what kind of show it is.
