He is one of the great American sitcom villains, and the series never softens him into a nice man who is secretly kind.

Andy Kaufman built Latka from his Foreign Man stand-up character, and his deal with the show reportedly also obliged the producers to book his lounge-singer alter ego Tony Clifton. The theme, Angela, is by Bob James, and it is a melancholy instrumental for a comedy, which tells you exactly what kind of show it is.
