Star Trek The Doomsday Machine Youth/Toddler T-Shirt

This The Doomsday Machine design comes from Star Trek: The Original Series, the 1966 show NBC cancelled after three seasons and syndication turned into a religion. The first pilot, The Cage, was rejected for being too cerebral and starred Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Pike. NBC ordered a second pilot, which almost never happens, and got Kirk instead. The budget was tight enough that the transporter exists because the production could not afford to land a starship every week. A shimmering effect made from aluminium powder was cheaper than a landing sequence.

The transporter was invented to avoid the cost of landing the ship every episode. Martin Luther King Jr. personally persuaded Nichelle Nichols not to leave the show.
