This Goofy Smile design comes from SpongeBob SquarePants, the show a marine biologist made about a sea sponge who fries burgers, which somehow became one of the longest running cartoons ever put on television. He was very nearly called SpongeBoy. The name was already trademarked by a mop company, which is why the surname SquarePants was added late in development and then written into the theme song.
