Sealab 2021 Tiles Womens T-Shirt

This Tiles design comes from Sealab 2021, the Adult Swim series built by taking a forgotten 1972 undersea cartoon and dubbing complete nonsense over the top of it. The visual style is pure seventies Hanna-Barbera, flat and bright and slightly stiff, which is exactly what makes the designs work as prints. They look like a sincere educational cartoon until you read what is written on them. The result bears no relationship to the original. The crew of the station spend their time arguing, scheming, staging elaborate personal projects and, with remarkable regularity, destroying the lab completely. Continuity is optional.

It was part of the original Adult Swim launch block in 2000, which means it helped establish the entire late-night animation format that followed. Adam Reed and Matt Thompson later created Archer, and the overlapping, self-interrupting dialogue style was worked out here first. This one is printed on a banana womens t-shirt in sizes S through 2XL. A solid pick for anyone who was awake at two in the morning in 2001.
