Description
This Schematic design comes from RoboCop, the 1987 film about a murdered Detroit cop rebuilt as corporate property, sold as an action movie and delivered as satire. ED-209 is stop-motion animation, and its failure to walk down stairs is one of the most quoted machine malfunctions in cinema. The twenty seconds to comply scene was cut repeatedly to secure an R rating rather than an X. RoboCop was released in 1987, directed by Paul Verhoeven, and it is far stranger than its reputation as an action film suggests. Officer Alex Murphy is murdered, rebuilt by a corporation as a product, and spends the film recovering the memory of having been a person.
ED-209 was realised with stop-motion animation, and its inability to manage a staircase is the best sight gag in the film. Paul Verhoeven has described the film as an American Jesus story, with Murphy killed, resurrected and walking on water in the final sequence. This one is printed on a navy womens t-shirt in sizes S through 2XL. A solid pick for anyone who noticed the film was a satire the whole time.
