This Dethklok Logo design comes from Metalocalypse, Adult Swim's pitch-black comedy about Dethklok — the most brutal death metal band on the planet and, by the show's own accounting, the world's seventh largest economy. Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha launched Metalocalypse in 2006, and the joke only worked because the music genuinely ripped. Small wrote and played it for real, with Gene Hoglan behind the kit, which is why Dethklok lands as an actual band instead of just a punchline.

The music was never a gag. Dethklok charted for real, with The Dethalbum landing in the Billboard top 25 in 2007 and dragging death metal further up the chart than it had any business going.
