Denmark, 1925. Carl Theodor Dreyer's domestic drama, released at home as Du skal aere din hustru, thou shalt honour thy wife: a household tyrant is quietly and completely dismantled by his old nurse. Dreyer had the apartment built as a functioning set with real rooms, real doors and working utilities, so the camera could move through it as a home rather than a stage, and reportedly made the cast live in it.
It was a considerable commercial success, particularly in France, and the money it made is what allowed Dreyer to go and make The Passion of Joan of Arc three years later. The poster gives the nurse the entire top half and puts the couple in a red heart beneath her, which tells you who wins before you have bought a ticket.
